Knuspr.de launches in second German region after Munich - Rhine-Main Metropolitan Region - more than doubling potential volume of sales in Germany

Targeting German turnover of €1.2 billion in 2024

PRAGUE, Czech Republic, February 15, 2022 – Rohlik Group ("Rohlik"), Europe’s leading online grocery delivery business, announced today that its Knuspr.de has launched services in the Rhine-Main Metropolitan Region, newly supplying consumers in and around Frankfurt, Mainz, Wiesbaden and Darmstadt with fresh and high-quality food, potentially more than doubling its German customer base and sales volume. Launched in Munich in August 2021, Knuspr.de already has 40,000 customers and delivers over 3,000 orders a day.

With its innovative concept, Knuspr.de now wants to continue this success story in the Rhine-Main area, creating both a time efficient alternative to supermarket shopping and significantly expanding the assortment available to customers compared to brick and mortar supermarkets. Importantly, around 30% of the assortment comes from regional producers and farms, delivering to customers a mix of international and domestic brands as well as a farmers market selection. Knuspr.de also plans to expand to Hamburg, Cologne and other cities within two years. Aiming for a turnover of €1.2 billion in 2024, Knuspr.de is aiming to be number one in the growing e-grocery market in Germany with 30% market share.

Farmers market and supermarket in one

The compromise between only modest food quality or long journeys to weekly shopping trips, favourite bakeries and farm produce stores has finally come to an end. From day one, consumers in the Rhine-Main metropolitan region can now conveniently do their weekly shopping online. Knuspr.de supplies the entire Rhine-Main region around Frankfurt am Main, Wiesbaden, Mainz and Darmstadt, but also the smaller communities in between with field-fresh and high-quality food from its central warehouse in Bischofsheim, Hessen. Within a maximum time window of three hours from receipt of order, this new regional online grocery operation guarantees the delivery of an entire week's groceries to your doorstep.

The broad assortment of around 9,000 products sets new standards, especially in terms of food quality: around 30% of the assortment comes from regional butchers, bakeries and wineries located no more than 100 km from the fulfilment centre. With three times more organic products than in traditional supermarkets as well as well-known brand products and international delicacies, Erich Čomor, Knuspr.de CEO, adds: “Many consumers want more regional and sustainably produced food, but are constantly disappointed by the long-established supermarket giants. We are delivering this offer and want to improve the lives of our customers in the long term by providing uncomplicated access to fantastic food. At the same time, we are opening up the opportunity for local producers and farmers, who are under pressure from bricks-and-mortar grocery retailers, to reach an even wider customer-base again with their products.”

Innovative concept for more quality and freshness in your own fridge

For consumers, the concept not only means more convenience but also more freshness: the delivery routes from the producer to the customer are shortened, baked goods are fresh from the oven in the company's own bakery and the delivery vehicles, which run on natural gas and electricity, are equipped with different temperature zones. This ensures that the cold chain for sensitive products such as ice cream, frozen pizza, meat and fish is maintained without interruption all the way to the customer's own fridge.

This new way of grocery shopping also protects the environment: the central warehouse, which runs on green electricity, not only replaces about 40 space-filling supermarkets and large car parks but thanks to a sophisticated logistics concept, an average of seven households receive their grocery deliveries per trip. “We are pleased to be able to offer customers in the Rhine-Main region freshness and product variety in the future along with great service. At the same time, we look forward to working closely with local producers and farmers,” comments Erich Čomor.

About Knuspr.de

The German eGrocer Knuspr delivers fresh, high-quality food directly to customers' homes within three hours. The assortment includes everything a big supermarket has to offer, but excels in fresh produce such as fruit and vegetables, meat and fish, dairy products and baked goods. A key difference is origin of produce and logistics: Knuspr sources more than two-thirds of its full range directly from producers and farmers, not from wholesalers and/or middlemen.
More than 30% of the assortment comes from regional suppliers, such as butchers and bakeries. In Munich, Knuspr's logistics centre in Garching serves as the single point of shipping for all orders from the Munich and Augsburg areas, and the same applies to the Knuspr site in Bischofsheim and the Rhine-Main metropolitan region. This means that the products can be delivered to customers' homes in the shortest possible time - in just a few hours after harvesting or production. Knuspr then guarantees delivery of ordered goods under 3 hours after receipt of the order and within a confirmed delivery window of 60 minutes. Deliveries are made from Monday to Saturday between 7:00 and 22:00.
Knuspr sees itself as a revolutionary player in the e-food business with this innovative concept of fresh products, a broad full range and fast delivery, and aims to reach around 30 million customers in Germany in the next three years. Locations in Hamburg, Cologne and other cities are already being prepared.
